About
The first exterior design phygital platform for outdoor living
Born in Barcelona, one of the most iconic cities of design and outdoor living, TERRASZA is the first phygital platform dedicated exclusively to Exterior Design. Although it started locally, it has an international horizon.
The name TERRA-SZ-A is a play on letters paying homage to the Catalan capital, where the word 'terraza' (terrace) is spelled with two S's. It symbolizes the pleasure of gathering with friends and family in a cozy outdoor space. In Spanish, it is spelled with a Z', while in Italian it has two Z's, emphasizing the origins of the founders.
TERRASZA ideally symbolizes a balcony or garden where one can relax and a corner where one can work in harmony with nature. It represents outdoor spaces, plazas, streets, and places where people meet. In essence, it speaks of society conducting its daily activities in that "sunlit interior" we know as public space: a visible field of energy in constant transformation.
TERRASZA offers a unique opportunity for companies and designers worldwide by fostering collaboration, dialogue, visibility, and innovation in the sector. Its approach is structured into two main areas:
- Offline: It proposes a series of itinerant events, starting with the inaugural event in October 2023 in Barcelona, followed by the Milan fuorisalone, and continuing in other iconic cities of international design in the future. These events combine product presentations, ideas, and reflections on current topics.
- Online: The website, available in English, Spanish, and Italian, features the magazine TERRASZA Views, which constantly publishes news and articles dedicated to the world of exterior design. It also offers a directory of more than 200 selected companies that stand out in the outdoor design scene.
EXTERIORISM: TERRASZA’s mission is to elevate exterior design to a new category of thought and market, on an international scale.
Derived from the term “exterior”, exteriorismo pertains to the importance attributed to the aesthetics and functionality of outdoor spaces, such as facades, gardens, terraces, courtyards, and any other outdoor environment. The art and science of designing outdoor areas that are attractive, functional, and in harmony with the surrounding environment blend with attention to visible aspects. This design approach values outdoor spaces and their visual and functional impact, considering both aesthetics and practicality.
TERRASZA promotes the adoption of ecological practices in the design of outdoor spaces and supports projects that combine creativity and new forms of ecology. It advocates for initiatives that encourage a future-focused perspective, recognizing the potential of design and environmental visualization in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive world for all. It is a call to action, an opportunity for architects, designers, and companies to adopt a more conscious and responsible approach to environmental protection and the creation of welcoming and vibrant urban, public, and private spaces.
TERRASZA, as outlined in its Manifesto, aims to highlight exterior design, generating synergies and exchanges that promote dialogue and reflection on topics such as ecology, lifestyles, and creative challenges, from a transdisciplinary perspective. Design and architecture, art and science, creativity and ecology must go hand in hand.
TERRASZA’s scientific director, Juan Cabello Arribas (Adjunct Professor at IE Spain, architect and researcher in ecological mediation, and postdoctoral fellow at DPA PUC-Rio), invites direct mediation between design and ecological thought, raising awareness among creators and brands in the production of outdoor objects and materials to pay greater attention to the environmental changes we are causing.
