Outdoor living is not just about creating furniture and accessories for warm and sunny seasons; it also embraces the idea of making outdoor spaces cozy and functional in winter or mountain settings. Chalets, terraces, outdoor areas, winter gardens, porches, and loggias, as well as relaxation areas in spas and wellness centers, can transform into true cozy retreats, both for residential and communal environments.
In these conditions, outdoor furniture must face challenges related to intense cold, rain, and snow. Durable materials, waterproof treatments, and advanced technologies become essential to ensure longevity and comfort. The use of water-repellent fabrics, corrosion-resistant structures, and integrated heating solutions are a must to provide a pleasant experience even in the harshest weather. The design should also consider thermal insulation and protection from elements such as wind and moisture, without sacrificing elegant and versatile aesthetics.
New and exciting winter outdoor experiences are possible thanks to many companies in the industry, with solutions that improve the quality and well-being of moments spent outdoors in low temperatures.
We propose a selection.
ETHIMO
Ethimo has designed solutions to create captivating and immersive winter ‘sceneries.’ After Allaperto Mountain, the first line specifically dedicated to high-altitude outdoor spaces, born from a collaboration with Studio Thun, Ethimo reinterprets some elements of its most iconic collections in fabrics, textures, and accessories, such as Paola Navone's Rafael lounge solutions, Christophe Pillet's Grand Life sunbeds, Marcello Ziliani’s Kilt armchairs, and Patrick Norguet’s Knit bergère chair, transforming them into extraordinarily cozy furniture for outdoor living even in colder months.
The common thread of the various proposals is teak, selected and FSC-certified, which, combined with the excellence, softness, and durability of the various fabrics and coatings, and the originality of the textures, expresses that warmth essential for furniture integrated into alpine settings. With its winter-themed proposals, Ethimo creates emotional sets that become a privileged viewpoint to admire the beauty of the surrounding environment, contemplate its atmospheres, and enjoy the tranquility, rest, and relaxed conviviality that unspoiled nature suggests.
B&B ITALIA
Comfort and sustainability are the key words that define the Husk Outdoor armchairs designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia. This collection is a tribute to softness and invites relaxation from the first glance, thanks to its generous extra-soft padding in a capitonné design. The rigid shell that contains it is made from Hirek®, a special plastic material made from recycled and recyclable polymers. While the shell is always white, the support is available in several colors. The cushioning comes in two versions, with larger sizes on the seat or backrest. The proposal is completed with a service table.
GANDIABLASCO
Cliffs, forests, sea, white sand, turquoise waters, incredible sunsets... the Minorcan refuge of Cala en Bosc inspired the collection designed by Made Studio for GANDIABLASCO. “The Mediterranean is freshness, tradition, sand, and breeze. It’s the taste of well-made things, from gastronomy to architecture, both yesterday and today,” say Borja García and Laura Ros, founders of the Valencia-based studio. “Bosc is a simple solution capable of transmitting that mix of peace, well-being, and satisfaction.”
The modular seating system, inspired by the comfort and adaptability of Mediterranean architecture, is super versatile, as it adapts to all types of situations and spaces, both residential and contract. The textile component plays an important role, both aesthetically and functionally. The simple and generous lines of Bosc speak the language of contemporary design, while its aluminum structure abstracts the traditional techniques of wicker furniture making.
VARASCHIN
The Emma family, designed by architect Monica Armani for Varaschin, expands with the proposal: Emma Poltrona Long, a kind of chaise longue, featuring a light and airy aluminum frame painted with powder coatings. The unmistakable handmade weaving and comfortable seat make it an elegant and very comfortable piece of furniture, where modernity and refinement find a new form of expression.
In the Emma Bergère Long version, it opens to an even more cocooning dimension. Characterized by the typical woven backrest, the red thread of the entire range, which makes it extremely elegant and suitable for the most exclusive outdoor spaces, this bergère is one of the company's novelties for 2024.
With an aluminum frame, available in different color variants, it supports a removable seat cushion, padded with Dryfeel® outdoor foam, designed to offer ergonomic support and optimal comfort. Emma Bergère Long Comfort is ready to become an indispensable complement in both residential and contract contexts. To provide a concrete example, the terrace of the Il Cocoon Deluxe hotel in Chamois, Valle d’Aosta, is almost entirely furnished by Varaschin, with the light and maneuverable sunbeds and the essential Bahia tables designed by Calvi Brambilla, and with the Clever armchairs, with soft curves that shape the backrest, and the Plinto tables designed by Pio and Tito Toso, whose base recalls the form of a tree trunk and its roots, a paradigm of stability.
ARCTIC PLUNGE
With its waterproof wooden tubs, lined with stainless steel and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, Arctic Plunge is one of the most interesting players in the high-quality ice bath market. The Swiss company offers innovative and easy-to-use products to promote health, regeneration, and mental strength. Philippe Defuns founded Arctic Plunge to make ice baths accessible and durable, inspired by his personal experience with a "makeshift" tub. He created a solution to address the lack of convenient and effective products in Europe.
Arctic Plunge's goal is to make cold therapy an integral and accessible part of everyday life for everyone. Arctic Plunge is not just a product; it is a true innovation for well-being and resilience through cold therapy, whose benefits include muscle recovery (it accelerates post-workout recovery), immune support (strengthens the body's natural defenses), and stress reduction (improves concentration).
