The design vocation of TRIBE Milano Malpensa

The first TRIBE hotel in Italy, opened in Milan Malpensa, hosted a week dedicated to design during the Salone del Mobile Milano in April 2024. With the opening of its terrace and swimming pool, it now invites guests to experience its urban and elegant style, embracing outdoor living. The TRIBE Milano Malpensa hotel, which opened in February near Milan’s main airport hub, welcomed guests during the most exciting week of the year for the Salone del Mobile.Milano and Milan Design Week. With the terrace pool opening in mid-June, it reaffirms its design-focused identity—expressed in the slogan ‘A BOLD DESIGN EDIT’—as well as its cosmopolitan, urban, and elegant lifestyle. Hotel guests, as well as those who now consider it a local hotspot for lunch or business meetings, can enjoy a spectacular outdoor space alongside the large internal garden, where they can sunbathe, take a swim, enjoy a drink, and socialise at sunset. Even on the terrace, the outdoor furniture and accessories come from renowned design brands such as Pedrali, Miniforms, Fermob, Fatboy, Midj, and Moustache.

During TRIBE DESIGN WEEK, hotel guests greatly appreciated the site-specific installation by Plust, featuring comfortable seating from the Boom collection designed by Marco Gregori. These pieces are made from Decor, a recycled and recyclable material that represents the company’s cutting-edge sustainability research—a unique and exclusive blend consisting of 80% industrial waste-derived material. Particularly at night, the elegant, sculptural shapes illuminated, transforming into a kaleidoscope of colours.

The exhibition of works by artist Patrizio Anastasi, titled Polymorphisms, also brought a dynamic cultural touch to the space. The Roman artist and illustrator, who has exhibited at Fondazione Merz, Circolo del Design, Frankfurt Book Fair, the Italian Cultural Institute in Copenhagen, and various street art festivals in Italy and Europe, explores editorial and mural illustration with a focus on the relational interplay between gesture, space, and sign.

His work attempts to narrate places and relationships through simple figures and geometric symbols, some abstract and others more figurative. Through assembly, modularity, and a playful use of colour, his works came to life in two distinct areas of the hotel. In the restaurant area, his prints depicted imaginary objects, while in the Social Hub, diverse characters with unique traits emerged, all linked by harmonious shapes and signs.Like the other 14 TRIBE hotels from Perth to Paris, TRIBE Milano Malpensa has selected renowned Italian and international design brands for its furnishings, including for the central social hub and its 240 rooms. Each room is equipped with custom-designed furniture, such as the original Signature TRIBE bed, raised to create ample luggage storage space. Artworks and iconic design objects further enhance the uniqueness of the environment, ensuring a pleasant stay. The opening marks the Italian debut of the TRIBE brand, founded in Australia in 2017. Bringing a fresh wave of contemporary style, TRIBE’s bold design is rooted in a mix-and-match concept that makes every TRIBE hotel distinct.
