Color and context: designing the Paxton Hotel

On Friday, 25th October, as part of TERRASZA BCN 2024, the Paxton Barcelona Hotel played host to a captivating talk by Ferran Tortosa, architect and founding partner of G4:GROUP, titled “Colour and Context: Designing the Skin of the Paxton.”During the event, Tortosa explored the pivotal role of context in architectural design, drawing on G4’s experience of creating the Paxton Hotel in Barcelona’s Poble Nou neighbourhood, near Bogatell Beach. He delved into how the hotel’s design reflects its unique surroundings—a district steeped in industrial heritage yet influenced by the proximity of the sea.The hotel’s striking exterior seamlessly blends these influences. Industrial structural elements nod to Poble Nou’s history, while shimmering reflections of light and sea imbue the façade with a dynamic, sunlit palette. The colour scheme evolves throughout the day, echoing the rhythms of its coastal setting. The hotel’s thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces, including an infinity pool and terraces furnished with premium brands like Roda and Pedrali, offer a retreat that’s as stylish as it is functional. The rooftop terrace serves as a haven for relaxation, inviting guests to enjoy Mediterranean-inspired cocktails against the backdrop of stunning views across Barcelona’s trendiest quarter. Meanwhile, the open-air bar provides the perfect venue for summer evenings, while the hotel’s coworking spaces and modern gourmet venues, such as Yolo Restobar and Yolo Terrace, cater to those seeking contemporary Mediterranean cuisine in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
